A unique plant which may be considered proto-carnivorous as its sticky stem can trap and kill insects. Stylidium Debile is known as the Frail Triggerplant and produces tall purple flowers. When an insect touches the flower, a piece of the plant will smack the insect to ensure it’s covered in pollen. Available in 3.5″ pots. Sold in quantities of 3. Care instructions can be found below.

Stylidium are native to Australian and can be grown outdoors in full sun or in a bright sunny window indoors. They can also do well in very bright terrariums or grow cabinets.

Use only rainwater, distilled water, water from a Reverse Osmosis System, or water with TDS (total dissolved solids) of 50 or less. You can buy a TDS tester in the Supplies section of our website. You never want these plants to dry out, so we recommend that you keep the plant in a bowl or tray of water.

Does well in a mix of organic peat moss (75%) to perlite (25%) or an equal mix of organic peat moss and sand. Don’t use potting soil or commercially grown peat moss which may contain fertilizers.

This plant does best in temperatures above freezing and can tolerate hot temperatures as long as it remains in a wet environment.

This tropical plant can grow year-round. Cold weather dormancy isn’t required, but during the colder winter months, be sure that it’s not exposed to temperatures below freezing for an extended period of time. It needs as much natural sunlight as possible. Keep the plant in a bowl or tray of water at this time, but short periods of dryness is ok.
