Aww, it’s a baby Pinguicula primuliflora (Southern Butterwort) in a jar! The Southern Butterwort is probably the most common Pinguicula as it grows pups and flowers easily. Does best in a sunny window and sitting in wet sphagnum moss. Comes in a baby jar with a lid. Remove the lid to allow air to enter the jar and reduce the chance of mold growing. Aww, it’s a baby Pinguicula primuliflora (Southern Butterwort) in a jar! The Southern Butterwort is probably the most common Pinguicula as it grows pups and flowers easily. Does best in a sunny window and sitting in wet sphagnum moss. Comes in a baby jar with a lid. Remove the lid to allow air to enter the jar and reduce the chance of mold growing.

This Butterwort can be grown in a bright sunny window indoors until it gets too big for the jar. When that happens, carefully remove the plant and place it in a larger pot with wet sphagnum moss or a mix or peat and perlite with a bowl of water underneath so that it never dries out.
Use only rainwater, distilled water, water from a Reverse Osmosis System, or water with TDS (total dissolved solids) of 50 or less. Keep the moss wet, but don’t fill it with water above the top layer of moss while in the jar.
Does well in sphagnum miss or a mix of organic peat moss (75%) to perlite (25%). Don’t use potting soil or commercially grown peat moss which may contain fertilizers. Click here to view our available soil mixes on our website.
This Butterwort does best in temperatures above freezing and can tolerate warmer temperatures as long as it remains in a wet environment.
This Butterwort can grow year-round and dormancy isn’t required, but you may notice slower growth in the Winter months. During the colder winter months, be sure that it’s not exposed to temperatures below freezing for an extended period of time.
